Shomik Ray
Associate Professor

Shomik Ray is a management professional engaged in the public health sector for the last 26 years. He has had the opportunity to work on various public health programmes including, HIV/AIDS and health sector support programs at the district, state and national level. Shomik has been engaged with various development organizations including international NGOs and bilaterals like OXFAM, GTZ and DFID in positions of increasing responsibility. He has a basic qualification in Finance followed by a post graduate degree in Management and a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has an MPhil Economic Evaluation from Newcastle University, UK. His approach to public health has been an effort to blend sound management principles with public health sciences to achieve results that are measurable and accountable. His years of work at different levels involving stakeholders ranging from the civil society to the government has given him a sound understanding of issues and ground realities, offering an opportunity to develop practices that are not only based on good science, but also achievable and practical. Having spent more than a decade as a practitioner, he is currently looking forward to make a contribution to the academics and research in public health particularly in the domain of public health management sciences and Health Technology Assessment especially economic evaluation. His interest areas include Public Health Management, Health Technology Assessment, especially Economic Evaluations and Willingness to Pay studies. Shomik takes a particular interest in teaching and training.
