The Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Natural Resources Defence Council and Indian Meteorological Department joint efforts was recognised and awarded the Earth Care Award for Leadership in Urban Climate Action

The Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar (IIPHG), Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Natural Resources Defence Council and Indian Meteorological Department joint efforts to combat Heat and its effects on health and the environment, by developing and implementing the first Heat Action Plan in the country for the city of Ahmedabad was recognised and awarded the Earth Care Award for Leadership in Urban Climate Action. The Heat Action Plan contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 17: Partnerships. The Heat Action Plan team was felicitated by the Honourable Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan. The Earth Care Awards is a chain of green awards which highlights locally evolved climate friendly practices in the production and consumption regimes across multiple sectors with special reference to climate change.

International Conference of Public Health (ICOPH) 2016 was organized in Colombo, Srilanka on 28th-29th July 2016. The conference theme was “Bridging the gap between research and policy and creating a global platform to discuss evidence-based health policies and interventions in public health”. The conference had participants from 21 countries who presented their research findings from various public health disciplines. Multiple parallel sessions were organized with quality presentations relevant to the pubic health including child health, maternal health, environmental and occupational health, mental health, elderly, quality of care and social issues, non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases and so.

Research Associate Dr Sandeep Mahapatra from the Indian Institute of Public Health Bhubaneswar (IIPH-B) won the session best session presentation award and best presentation award of the conference for his presentations on “Capacity building on tobacco cessation using hybrid training model”. Associate Professor Kavitha Menon from the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPH-G) won the session best presentation award for Nutrition for her presentation on “Intake of Dietary Supplements in Pregnant Indian Women: Too Much of A Good Thing?”.

The IIPH Delhi Research paper titled “Indigenous Medicine Use for Sex Selection during Pregnancy and Risk of Congenital Malformations and stillbirths” – ( Sutapa B Neogi, Preeti H Negandhi, Abhijit Ganguli, Sanjay Zodpey, Rakesh Gupta) won the best paper award on Maternal health at the 2nd International Conference on Public Health, Colombo (28-29 July 2016)

Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM) is a joint certification program designed and delivered by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) along with its Academic Partner Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai with an educational fund support from MSD Pharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd. In its journey of six years it has trained more than 7600 primary care physicians in 4 cycles . This course got recognition from South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES) for 3 years from 2017- 2019. SAFES represents Endocrine Societies of 5 South Asian countries (Srilanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India) . It aims to the growth of endocrinology in the region and to empower doctors both specialists and general practitioners practising endocrinology and diabetes by fostering academics and research in these countries.

SAFES represents the Endocrine Societies of 5 countries of South Asian Region namely India, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. It aims to the growth of endocrinology in the region and to empower doctors both specialists & general practitioners, practicing Endocrinology & Diabetes by fostering academics and research in these countries. SAFES has accredited the CCMTD for the year 2016-2017.

Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (CCGDM) is a joint certification program designed and delivered by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) along with its Academic Partner Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai with an educational grant from Johnson & Johnson (J & J) Medical India and Johnson and Johnson Diabetes Institute(JJDI). In its journey of three years it has built a strong network of 128 faculty, 15 national experts, 25 observers and trained more than 2800 primary care physicians and obstetrics & gynaecologists. We have completed 3 cycles of this course and now going ahead with 4th cycle from August 2016. We have IDF recognition for this course till 2017.
