Alumni Speaks

After completing graduation in Microbiology, I was interested in pursuing post-graduation in a course which specialize in research. Therefore, I joined IIPH-Delhi for my career in the exciting realm of clinical research. We have a very experienced and helpful faculty who really push us to go out of our comfort zone and teaches us many important skills through dedicated lectures and student presentations. They have always guided and encouraged us to develop skills outside of the curriculum to increase employability and get a better understanding of clinical research. We have regular skill building sessions as well to hone our soft skills and prepare us for placements and jobs. In the final semester of the course we also have a dissertation project where we use all the skills we have learned throughout the course to go into the field and develop a novel research project of our own. We are also encouraged to publish our manuscripts. Overall, the institute puts in a lot of effort in capacity-building of its students and encourages us to develop necessary skills and delve deep into the realm of research while always catering to our specific needs. It has been an exciting learning curve so far and a holistic learning experience. I am confident it has given me the tools required to be suitable for a wide number of jobs in research.

I have done Bachelor in Dental surgery and Master in Public Health (MPH). At IIPH-Shillong, I got the opportunity to study at one of the best public health schools. There are many guest lectures, field visits and surprise modules that allow us to think further. I am currently working on the Malnutrition and Anemia Program where I lead a team of 15 field coordinators, and also monitor, and oversee the pilot and community survey. I learnt these skills during the MPH program at IIPH through various modules. During my courses at IIPH-Shillong, I learnt skills such as program management, teamwork, data management and communication. The best part of the curriculum was the dissertation, which gave me insight into community surveys, questionnaire designing, data management and fieldwork. In my current job, all of these skills are helping me to do my best and receive recognition from the team leader for my performance during my tenure.

IIPH- Gandhinagar has helped me in expanding my horizon beyond just clinical care. There are so many aspects of health and wellbeing which we often overlook. People often ask me why I switched to Public Health after doing MBBS? Embracing both these worlds has helped me to look at healthcare from a holistic perspective. Now I no longer look at a disease as just signs and symptoms, the broader determinants of health play equally an important role as well. I can appreciate the interconnection between individual health, social health, community health and environmental health. I understand how crucial it is to act on each of these domains to achieve the global health for all. I am currently working as a Healthcare Analyst – Xiimba Ecosystems Pvt Ltd. My major area of work is in capacity building of healthcare workforce through digital health tools. I thank all my teachers for their teachings and putting in the germ of curiosity and always asking questions and seeking answers in this ocean of public health.

The whole course experience is critical in assisting me in achieving my career objectives. The institute provides an excellent atmosphere for students to interact with instructors that are highly experienced and informed. This course provides an alternative viewpoint to typical thinking. This training benefits not only professional development but also personal development. Internships provided me with real-world experience while also exposing me to challenges and complexities. I was able to receive good mentors, assistance, and maybe future career prospects or references via networking with public health professionals and specialists. These internships have helped me understand program management, quality assurance and healthcare legislation. I am hoping that this knowledge and skill development will be beneficial when I begin working in my chosen career. This has benefited and made me a more enticing candidate for future opportunities.
