Sunil Saksena Raj
Chief of Projects
Dr. Saksena Raj is a Pediatrician Neonatologist and Public Health professional, with more than 20 years of experience.
After pursuing his postgraduate education in Preventive Social Medicine & Paediatrics from, Delhi University, he qualified for a Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), UK and then completed his MPH from University of South Florida. He has prior experience of working in public health in UK, US, Australia, and Oman.
He is currently working as Chief of Projects in the Health Technology division where he provides Programmatic and Technical leadership to national and state level projects on Health technology, Point of care Diagnostics, MCH and HIV.
He is responsible for conceptualization of new healthcare technology initiatives. He has varied experience across domains like mHealth, Point of care technologies, AI being some of them. He has been very passionate about the use of technology in Healthcare, and was responsible for deploying “Swasthya Sahayak”, a Point of Care technology, in many districts of the country, for diagnostics, monitoring and evaluation and program management purposes.
He has been instrumental in the development of the national policy on maternal and child death audits, pediatric HIV, disease surveillance, and the adoption of HIV Migrant Service Delivery system by National AIDS Control Organization. He was responsible for the planning & launch of the “National Pediatric HIV/AIDS Initiative” wherein he influenced the health of infected & affected children through ARVs, and nutritional support. He lead one of the largest USAID supported HIV/ AIDS PIPPSE project nationally.
He was also awarded AusAID Advanced HIV Fellowship at Sydney University.
As a part of BMGF funded “Bihar Evaluation of Social Franchising & Telemedicine” (BEST) Project, he was part of the international team who evaluated the Impact of Social Franchising & Telemedicine on Childhood Diarrhea and Pneumonia in India ICDDR, B and field sites in Matlab Bangladesh.
He has published extensively in national and international journals.

Research Summary and Interests
He has led several studies on evaluation of Public Health projects/ programs like evaluation of BEST project. He has authored National Pediatric HIV/ AIDS Guidelines
He has also published case studies on maternal child health and Health system’s capacity to handle maternal and infant morbidity and mortality.
He has also contributed to the development of National guidelines on disease surveillance
