PROFILE OF LT GENERAL NARAYAN CHATTERJEE, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (RETD)
Lt General Narayan Chatterjee had a very distinguished career in the Indian Army for over 4 decades. A paratrooper and most experienced pilot of the Army, he actively participated in 1965 & 1971 wars, Sri Lanka Operation and Kargil conflict.
He held many key appointments in the Army and Ministry of Defence, notably, Additional Director General Army Aviation Corps which was founded in November 1986, Director General Resettlement and Director General Manpower Planning & Personnel Services. As Director General Resettlement, he was responsible for resettlement of Ex Servicemen, War Widows, Disabled Soldiers and other casualties in the entire country. He was actively associated with the High Powered Committee on Disaster Management, Government of India. . Lt General Chatterjee was also instrumental in the conceptualization of Ex Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), which is fully functional in the country. As Director General Manpower Planning, he was responsible to monitor the Health State of the Indian Army in conjunction with the Director General Medical Services. He was Vice Chairman of Army Group Insurance.
In his capacity as Director General Resettlement and Director General Manpower Planning & Personnel Services, he was actively associated with Army- Industry Partnership and Corporate Liaison for utilising potentials of Ex Servicemen into Industry/Corporate/PSUs/NGOs.
On retirement from the Indian Army in the end of 2003, he was Head of Logistics & Training of an MNC for 3 years. He was also actively associated with an NGO in Northern India as its Director General for 4 years.
Widely travelled, Lt General Chatterjee has been awarded on five occasions by the President of India for Distinguished and Gallantry services.
Lt General Narayan Chatterjee joined Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) on 21 Jan 08 and is presently the Special Advisor- Government & NGO Relations.
