Dr. Priti Gupta
Senior Research Associate

I am a clinician who has been working in public health over the past seven years. My first major exposure to public health was as a Junior Resident in the Department of Community Medicine in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi in 2011. During my research career I have worked on cross sectional, qualitative, and cohort studies. I have also worked on clinical trial and implementation project.
I am currently working on mWellcare project, a clinical trial funded by the Wellcome Trust, which is designed to test an integrated m-Health system for evidence-based management of hypertension and diabetes. Second, on WHO SEARO project on development of PEN training module for SEARO countries. Third, on Integrated Tracking, Referral, Electronic Decision Support and Care Coordination (I-TREC) project, a NIH-funded implementation science study designed to develop, implement and evaluate I-TREC package focused on hypertension and diabetes management in India at public health care setting in Punjab. Also, I have been selected as Fogarty Fellow for 2018-2019 batch and my Fogarty project titled “Multimorbidity in Northern India: Prevalence, Correlates, and Associated Mental and Physical Health Impacts” will be embedded in I-Trec project. Fourth, I am working on a cross-sectional study that is investigating the association of insulin resistance and other components of metabolic morbidity, i.e. central obesity, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in North India.

Research Summary and Interests

My experience in research has focused on chronic conditions and started during my master’s training in Community Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. I conducted a community-based study on functional disability among elderly persons in a rural setting in India. After completing my master’s, I joined the Centre for Chronic Disease Control (CCDC) to conduct policy research and have continued to work there as part of the research management team on a variety of epidemiological and intervention studies. Over the past three years, I have been involved in training field staff, nurses, and doctors; supervising and coordinating field data collection; data management; drafting reports and publications; developing electronic data collection tools; and documenting study activities through writing manuals of operations for research and training. I have also conducted and analyzed in-depth qualitative interviews and focus group discussions using qualitative approach. I am interested in research related to noncommunicable disease, health system and mHealth.
