Dr Venkatesh is currently a fellow in the Wellcome trust research capacity building grant on Health policy & systems research. Also he is a member at PHFI’s interdisciplinary programme of research on critical aspects of health governance in low-income contexts, linked to capacity building and advocacy.
He is a medical graduate (MBBS) from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda & Masters in public health (MPH) from Achutha Menon Centre at Sri Chitra tirunal institute of medical sciences & technology, Trivandrum. He did his MPH thesis with MDRF (Madras Diabetes Research Foundation) on physical activity in rural Tamilnadu.
Prior to joining PHFI, he was working as the state technical project coordinator with CARE in the BMGF ‘ananya’ family health initiative at Patna. For about two years, he has worked with UNICEF in Bihar as a divisional health coordinator & provided techno-managerial support to the government health & administrative officials in Maternal & child health programs. His area of work largely comprised of programs concerning immunization, special care newborn units (SNCU), IMNCI, first referral units (FRU) & skilled birth attendents (SBA). He was the field coordinator for MAPEDIR Project for maternal death verbal autopsy implemented by UNICEF with Johns Hopkins University. Prior to that he has worked with NGO’s in Gujarat on HIV-AIDS.
