Senior Public Health Specialist, Health Economics & Systems and Adjunct Assistant Professor

Dr Rao holds a PhD in public health from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, an MSc in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University, USA; and a BA in Economics from Saint Johns University, USA. His doctoral work focused on health systems and program evaluation. Prior to joining PHFI, he worked for two years in Afghanistan with the Ministry of Public Health and Johns Hopkins University, where he managed a health financing pilot programme and taught courses at the Ministry of Public Health. He has also worked with the World Bank and other research institutions. He is currently engaged with a number of projects including a study of human resources for health in India, the cost-effectiveness of the Hib vaccine, coordinating the Lancet Series on India, and a study on the economic impact of cardiovascular diseases.
