Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG)

IIPHG was set up in 2008 by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the Government of Gujarat as a joint initiative In 2016, it moved to its new lush, green, 50 acres campus on the banks of river Sabarmati provided by the Govt. of Gujarat in Gandhinagar. IIPHG is a pioneer institute in public health education, training, research and advocacy. The institute has the distinction of being awarded recognition as the first public health university in India (under IIPHG Act-2015 of Gujarat State). IIPHG has a number of research and implementation collaborations and MoUs with organisations and institutes of repute in India and abroad. IIPHG has collaborated with various Government partners like ICMR, DST, DBT, IMD, Govt. of Gujarat, and Govt. of Maharashtra. IIPHG has also worked with WHO, UNICEF, CARE Bihar and has international collaborations with University of Bonn, Germany, University of Canberra, Australia and NRDC, USA. IIPHG has a molecular biology laboratory which was established with support from DST. IIPHG has a rich research portfolio with more than 300 research papers published till now. A Student’s Innovations Center has been recently started.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

The MPH programme offered by IIPHG is a two-year, full time programme aimed at bridging the gap in public health manpower. It has been designed to help participants acquire skills to examine and respond to current and future public health challenges. The programme has a multi-disciplinary curriculum – public health management, epidemiology, biostatistics, demography, social behvavioural sciences in health, health promotion, health economics, health financing health policy. The programme is delivered using a variety of teaching/learning techniques, e.g; lectures, case discussions, practical exercises, lab work, field visits, seminars, journal clubs, group discussions, assignments, internships, and dissertation.

Duration and Mode of Delivery

MPH is a two-year, full-time program. The program will be delivered using a variety of teaching/learning techniques, including lectures, case discussions, practical exercises, lab work, field visits, seminars, journal clubs, collaborative learning, group discussions, assignments, hands-on training, internship, and dissertation. There is a possibility of optional internships in foreign universities to selected students. The cost of this is not covered in the fees.

The course is scheduled to begin from August 2022.

Eligibility

The course is open to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India or abroad, with at least 50% marks. Public health being a multidisplinary area, students from diverse academic backgrounds e.g; medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, AYUSH, nursing, other paramedical and veterinary sciences, management, natural sciences (including biology), social sciences and social work, engineering, law, commerce or accounting, communication, etc. can apply. Relevant work experience in health and development sector will be an advantage but is not mandatory.

Admission and Selection

Selection of applicants will be based on educational qualification, marks obtained in board/university exams, work experience, and performance in Entrance test, personal interview, essay writing, and group discussion.

Course Fees

  • Indian nationals (including Nepal & Bhutan): Rs.2,40,000 per annum
  • SAARC country students: $5,000 per annum.
  • International students: $6,600 per annum.
