Regulatory and tax statusThe Public Health Foundation of India ("PHFI"/ "the Foundation") was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 vide registration certificate number 54840 dated 8 February 2006. PHFI has been granted an exemption under section 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961, vide letter number DIT(E)/12A/2005-06/P-1044/05/313 dated 16 June 2006. The Foundation has also obtained exemption u/s 80G(5)(vi) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. PHFI has been registered as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Scheme on Recognition of Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations (SIROs), 1988 Vide F. No. 14/482/2008-TU-V dated 05th April, 2017 for the period from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2020.
