PHFI-DEAKIN FELLOWSHIP FOR DOCTORAL STUDIES

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is pleased to announce a PhD Fellowship under its Future Faculty Programme, for professionals keen on doctoral studies in the areas of Public Health at Deakin University, Australia.

PHFI in partnership with the prestigious Deakin University will sponsor the selected candidates for a fully funded PhD at Deakin, which will include tuition fee, living support for the duration of the course and travel. The total fellowship support from Deakin University will be in the range of AUS$ 125,000 to AUS$ 150,000. We are looking for public health professionals, who wish to build upon their rich experience in public health by pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the following areas:

  • Health Promotion and Public Health
  • Nutrition and Physical Activity
  • Health Economics

Eligibility

  • Candidates must possess a Masters degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution and must have demonstrated significant interest in public health related academic areas.

  • The thesis work should focus on issues relevant to India & most of the work would be carried out in India.

  • Candidates having significant research and teaching experience will be preferred.

  • Candidate must have secured at least 60% or more marks in all their educational qualifications from class 10th onwards.

  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall and 6 in every band (This score is required only upon selection to the program at the time of visa application).

Selection Process

1) Applications received, will be rigorously reviewed internally by PHFI and short listed candidates will be contacted appropriately.

2) Interviews and Selection:

  • Round one of the interviews will be conducted telephonically, following which shortlisted candidates will be called for an in person interview conducted by a panel comprising of eminent experts in public health.
  • Candidates will be informed personally after a decision by the panel has been made regarding their further selection.
  • Selected candidates will be further invited for presentation/interaction with Deakin University panel through video conference for a final selection.

How to apply?

For your application, please send us the following documents:

1. A cover letter mentioning that you have applied to PHFI - Deakin PhD fellowship mentioning the area of specialization.
2. A copy of your latest curriculum vitae.
3. Relevant documents (academic transcripts, certificates of work experience, etc)
4. Three letters of recommendations.
5. Compulsory Essay–

a. Relevance of your field of research to the public health challenges in India and how you wish to contribute to it [500 words approx.]

The essay should persuasively establish (1) your preparation to undertake this intense course of study, (2) your understanding of the challenges, and (3) approaches to address the challenges at the individual and institutional levels.

6. A one page document with your research question(s) followed by a write up on the methodology you would use for conducting the research.
7. Two of your best research publications and any other relevant material to strengthen your case

NOTE: SELECTED candidates will have to sign a bond agreement with PHFI to serve as a full time faculty member in its Indian Institutes of Pubic Health (IIPH) located at Delhi, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar and other Indian cities, for 5 years after completion of PhD.
